5th and 6th week of 2018

Assalammu'alaikum family, friends, readers and followers of this blog. Writing 2 weeks once is pretty challenging in its own way. So here's a little entry for 29th Jan through 11th Feb 2018.

I have Baby M all week from last Thursday (25th Jan) till Friday (2nd Feb) on her Birthday. Sadly, I cant be there to celebrate with her, so I will just drop her off at school along with goody bags for her to give out.

Goody Bags

Following the school's instructions to omit food items, we made these drawstrings bags personalised with their names and put in some stationaries:

I also made a little something for the teachers for being such an awesome sport.

Making something for 34 children and 10 teachers (incl Janitor and Cook) had been a pleasant experience. I hope they all enjoy and love the gifts.

Family BBQ

3rd Feb 2018. We had our pits and tent permit sort out. We got our stuffs planned out to buy and make, and now here comes the day!

We had with us what looked like an apocalypse strike us. It looks like we had what we could use to survive for a month minus plenty of clothes change.

We've got full squad this time, and it was a great time well spent! All the kids mingling and talking, the adults reminiscing our old times.. I miss us, so much!

Enjoy some pictures:

3 of 12 months of 2017

Assalammu'alaikum family, friends, readers and followers of this blog. February went zoomed past me, and today is already the 4th week of March! Now let's catch up...

Beginning of March was pretty much just compiling all my orders for #sewbasicsg to get done once I am back from my holidays. Spend quite a bit of fabrics, so i can stay home to sew more than I get out to get fabrics or notions.

The 1st week was pretty much spent on packing and planning and getting money changed and confirmations of our trips..

The 2nd week, the long awaited family trip (which i had shared here) with my husband, my mom & my second niece.

I took a whole lot of photos to help #sewbasicsg last a long while before she needs more photos all over again. I took advantage of the outdoors, the green sceneries and whenever I have the chance to flash my camera and start clicking.

We came back drained. Thank god for insurance, we decided to make our first claim, just like that.

About insurance, I remember a lot of my younger adult which detest insurance. I used to feel like we are paying a whole lot for nothing because I was too young to treasure health and maybe just blessed to not get sick badly during that time frame. I took the simplest, the cheapest possible, and lapse a couple of times. My then insurance agent, Sean, was patient and keep telling me it will be beneficial later on, like 5-10 years down the road, and that I should really invest in a good plan. An advice that fell on deaf ears.

After he left the company, I never really bother to take a look at my policies. Last I met him was briefly after I got a job after a long year of unemployment since my retrenchment. I took one policy, the cheapest possible that covers hospital bills or something like that, with cash every yr after a certain number of years of investing. I was quite prompt on that one.

So ya, after he left, I felt more need for better coverage but never really bother that much UNTIL I got myself sick, badly. I was in the hospital wishing I have his number to call and ask. I didnt, and never went to find out.

I finally looked at some letters are realised he has left and that another agent was looking at my policies. Still nothing of real need. Right until Christmas last yr, I think. I decided to text her, and we met, and we became friends, I relook at my policies.

I regretted not listening to Sean back then. I wished I had a better policy that would cover my sickness which landed me in hospital for 8days. I wished I earn some payouts with it, but didnt. So I figured I need more coverage, since this sickness is for life. Ok, before you go all frantic, it is not cancer, it is not contagious, it is not something that stopped me from doing what I do everyday, but it does restrain me from some vigorous or hard work. It weakens by immune by a wee bit.

So, I took 2 more policies. And ended up with this bill of $200/mth, and some $400 smtg per annum, and the pre-existing one which is just $71.30/mth.

Not big amt means not a huge payout should I die or been diagnosed with another illness, but the least I can reassure myself that I am covered, and that my family will be somewhat a little or a lot eased with these insurance.

I am loyal to AIA for many reasons, the top reasons, as I always have to emphasize is how they agent took care of me. They never pushed me to swallow and take in the most expensive policy in their system, they never slash my meat and grill it to bloodless, they simply become my friend. In which I find comfort to consult them whenever in doubt. My agent get numerous repeated questions about my policies because I just dont remember. She attends to me like a friend would. Of course she doesnt have just me, so sometimes it takes awhile before she reverts, but she always does. I can never say enough thanks to her for taking care of my policies. Payments sometimes dont get through, and she NEVER judges me. She just simply reminds me when she gets notified of failed attempts to deduct the amount via giro.

I am glad for that. I remember another insurance company who would pass remarks like to not waste his time if I cant pay, yada yada.. Glad I got Sean to transfer that out and in with AIA. And have since been told to just pass my agent's number for other insurance company who couldn't take no for an answer to deal with.

I did just that the last time an agent call to advice me of some insurance. I simply pass it like "i have an agent, you may talk to her about your recommendations, and she will revert to me, thank you"

Usually I don't really get to pass her number, they will just say ok and hang up.

If you are keen to know your options, you may refer to this entry and get their number in that post.

So ya, that claim will go through, aint I glad I took up travel insurance for my trip!

3rd week, is just me doing laundry from the trips, for 3 days and counting, it is still not completed. Pfft. And also me completing orders that needs to get out to their owners by end this week.

Just as I typed this, I received news that my favourite Uncle S had passed... 20th March, another uncle gone to meet our Creator. Last I saw him was during my fathers passing, he came with his wife, I didn't see him a lot after that.. I had a little regret for not visiting him while I could. But regrets are useless when death intercepts. I should really try harder to make time for people while they are still here around me. I visited my cousin the next day.

He recalled and shared with us a beautiful memory of my Uncle S. He wanted us to just remember all the good things. And for the good things, I shall remember.

4th week... The last leg, which means I need to complete 2 hoodie orders, before I get going with 2 more... Alhamdulillah, I have been receiving orders. And here is what's new at #sewbasicsg

We delivered a Raglan Couple Set:

And we got around sewing something new too!

A dressier Mak & Me Collection, great for playdates, lunch out or hi-tea. Welcome, the Lyenq (Girls') and Eqa (Women's) Dress!

Go visit us at our FB Page or Instagram to see more of it. :)

We are also sewing some instocks, although I never got myself to start as much as I wanted to, partly because my immune is failing and not holding up right.

As much I wanted to slow down on reviewing, I had one that I must do! About A0 printing service, and how it is more beneficial when a fellow sewist provides such printing service than a printing company. Since I have had a good share of sending patterns to print at both. I will tell you just why it is so much smoother and easier to send it to a quilter instead of the printing shop.

In this last leg of March, I am also enjoying the LG Ultra HD 4K TV. The color, sound and clarity, oh my.. there is no going back! And we got it at a good one day sale! Paid in CASH! Awesome much!

And oh.. I bought cheap nice looking shoes too!

It may not be authentic, but I like this inspired New Balance.

And this "rejected" Converse.

It is just shoes! And with me riding, they will be very worn, so as long as it fits, and gives me comfort, I don't see why, and as long as seller is honest with it indicating "inspired" and telling us it is "rejected" due to minor defects like missed stitches, or discolor bits which my eyes couldnt catch unless I looked carefully looking for it.. Which I never did spot what the reject was. It fits, and that was all that mattered. So yeay to getting two shoes for just $60.50 incl reg mail!

But it is really authentic unless otherwise mentioned, and if you doubt their authenticity, you can always go to the shop.. noone is forcing you to buy, right? :)

These shoes are from here.

So much for slowing down on doing reviews eh, looks like I have a list building up to write now..

Nothing much planned for the last leg of March, so I shall just publish this. April is pretty much filled with weddings, I have 3 weddings to attend, I think.. More selfish sewing maybe? :)

Busy Sewing Bee,

Long Weekend with #anakcucuPakMasnollah

Assalammu'alaikum family, friends, readers and followers of this blog.

So.. what's up? A super long weekend is over, and it will be another 6 weeks before another long weekend. So what has happened the past two weekends?

CNY weekend was awesome. We (the #anakcucuPakMasnollah entourage)  booked a pit at Changi Beach Park, all hyped for night to come. Happy is, when we all managed to surprise our precious girls with the whisper challenge thingy.. And my husband managed to record the moments and had uploaded it up to youtube. Link later as you read. :)

It was a teamwork involving two external resources, namely, Dhiyya Delights/Ainal Dhiyya for the awesome 2-in-1 cake, and the guy from Run My Errands who picked up the cake and deliver it right to our pit.

As we all know, the cake baker is not a new name in my life. I stalked her for a long long while prior to my engagement, and because I just cannot risk having a pretty but not tasty cake, I engaged her service to bake a cake for the girls birthday some 4-5years ago. Seeing is believing, it looked good, and tasted even better than it looks! So I took the plunge and engaged her for my wedding cake and the gift exchange cakes. And like the first I had only told her what kindda cake I want, how I want it to be, and roughly how I want it to look. For most of time when I engaged her service, I rarely tell her exactly what I want, just excerpts of what I want, and she always always surprises me pleasantly by exceeding my expectations wildly. I am not exaggerating. Trust me, I don't get any special discounts for every time I mentioned her. This is sincerely my heartfelt appreciation to her work and of my satisfaction everytime I engaged her to bake for me. Yes, it may be pricey but it is worth every single cent for a cake beyond satisfaction, it looks great, but taste superbly awesome. Not stingy with her ingredients, which is why her small 5" cake is usually more than 1kg.

So this time all I had said is that the girls are worlds apart, with one loving mango and another one loving anything chocolate, and here is the result:

Lovely right? 2-in-1 cake!

Well, we booked the pit on 7th February, eve of CNY. There will be many couriers, but all would be off to celebrate the holidays as well. I went crazy, because I don't want to have myself out to collect the cake leaving the girls suspicious, and definitely not anyone else in the family because they will be suspicious all the same.

Then a friend suggested me to try Run My Errands. I browse thru the FB Page for a long while, after being very sure that all there is there are positive reviews, I private messaged and was instantly greeted well with a quotation. Pricey yes, but I have not much choice. I decided to confirm my details and see how it goes. All the while, from the first to the last message to inform him of some changes and all was promptly attended to and replied within the same hour.

On that day, I was anxious. It was approximately 7.30, that I got a message to inform that the cake has been collected. Few minutes later my baker confirmed that the cake has been collected. We were throwing random phrases to everyone and it wasn't the girls' turn yet when I received the call to confirm our location as he has arrived. Oh boy. he was discreet knowingly that it was meant for a surprise. It was a brief smile, a quick thank you and the cake is with us out of the girls' viewing range. So while my 2nd sis and BIL got busy opening the cake and getting it ready for the girls, I snapped back in the whisper challenge and got the girls to guess our special phrase!

Watch it here.

The look on their faces. so blur. What a random phrase right? Heh, then we gestured them to look at what's on the table and you can clearly see the glow on their faces. So special. So so special.

I can hardly believe that the mango girl is 21 and the chocolate girl is 19 going 20 this year. Their birthday is just 3 weeks apart, and they had always celebrated it together like twins. They are the first two children under my care, so they are special, too special for words.

I know I have wished you girls earlier, and I am wishing you girls again. Happy Birthday, Grow Wisely, Be Kind. I love you!

We didn't stay till morning, in the video you could tell the wind was extremely strong and some of us are catching the cold. We left a little past midnight for the warmth on our beds. When Monday came, I became extremely lazy, all I wanna do is lay on bed and sleep and sleep.

I was really suppose to sew two pairs of skants but it clearly didnt happen. The only thing that happened on Tuesday is my meeting with my insurance agent to update my policies and the trip to Bras Basah to get my Fossil watches serviced, and on the way back, meet a friend to get the VKen socks.

I dragged myself to the reality that it is going to be work day. Thankfully it is just for 1.5days. Then an accident happened to my dad, who had tried to hold the lift door open only to have his blood spurting out like paint, and he just shoved his finger to my face asking to put a plaster on it. So I dragged him to the clinic with lots of tissues pressed on the open wound to get it dressed. Too freak for me!

Thankfully, my bosses are understanding for trusting to my words. It was a crazy week with my injured father especially with his dementia. Every time he wakes up from his sleep, he seemed to wonder why his finger is bandaged and tried to open it, and even wash it before screaming in pain. And we all screamed the house crazy because no matter how often we remind him, he forgets. The battle is real. The horror to have Dementia is real. So real I am scared. One day, when he cannot recognize anyone anymore, I wouldn't be able to work full time, I will have to be on alternate days or half days so I can bring him out away from my very overly stressed mother. Life will be crazy.

On Friday night, we fetched our weekend baby. On Saturday, I babysat another three children and instantly became a mother of 4. Thankfully the older children are very giving to my weekend baby. The little baby was having a bad cough though.

And on Sunday, we went to the market, to the wedding reception and to the airport. And today back in the office again. It suddenly got me thinking of marriage, and what it means, but I guess that is for another entry.

Oh! And I just wanna officialize that #sewbasic won't be taking apparel orders. I just felt that we are better at doing bags and taking orders for that than we are up to taking apparel orders. Fret not though, I will definitely direct you to other better tailors around to serve you, insyaAllah.

Until next time,
Jun
