A0 Printing Services Review

Assalammu'alaikum family, friends, readers and followers of this blog. I know and well aware that I haven't been blogging reviews lately, so let this be the first.

A0 Printing Services

I am not new to printing A0s being a CAD Designer, A0 is a size we deal with on daily basis. We know where to send our drawings for printing. There are companies who invest in plotters for their company usage as well, and some even investing in one that can fold the A0 into a size A4.

So what is this review about? I am not talking about printing drawings now, I am talking about printing sewing patterns. I am an avid PDF Pattern user, and putting together A4s to make pattern pieces puts me off and turned me into a hoarder of patterns that never got round being pieced together, what more sewn. So, I looked for pattern designers who provides an A0 print copy and turned them into my favourite designer to go to.

The most I am willing to work with piecing A4s together is less than 10pages, anything more and I would try look for an alternative designer who provides A0 or bite my fingers off and tape them together anyway, taking my leisure time, which sometimes leave these papers lying half way pieced in my sewing room and complete them over a few days. THAT is just how lazy I am about piecing A4 together.

With an A0 pattern in hand, I didn't take long to go to Ultra Supplies to print them. They used to charge $3 for a page of black and white print, and $6 for full color. But recently have tripled the cost and got me blinking and gulping down my saliva.

Ultra Supplies

The service there was brilliant only if I am served by Mr Dong, The rest were not as friendly, and not very helpful. Folding is at additional charge of 20cents/page. Delivery is only available for above $100, but I never used it since folding is charged, furthermore if I need to spend $100, it will mean min 34 pages, and it means $10.20 is for folding, which I find a little ridiculous. And NO, I don't wish for my patterns to arrive to me rolled. Not for sewing patterns, not for CAD Drawings either. Have you ever tried discussing and trying to unroll your A0? It keeps rolling back, and it hits my pissed off chord. So, NO...

The only reason why I still go there, then, despite the bad service unless Mr Dong served me, is because it takes less than an hour to get all my patterns printed out, after waiting for my turn to be served, it would be about 1.5hours, which is relatively fast.

But with their charges now, I am not so sure about returning, charging $5 for a page of A0 in black and white and freaking $16 for a full color is outrageous!! And our patterns are not always in one page, it often comes in 2 pages and we usually need copies so NEXT pls!! Above those charges, there is service charge and GST!! Printing 8 pages cost $130.11 with all the charged added!!! How absurb??!!

So I tried sourcing for another printing company, I emailed one which was recommended.

Plixo

All you have to do is email them, they charge $3.50/page for black and white, didnt ask them how much for color. Price include GST, so much easier to calculate! They do delivery but I didnt ask how much either, because I procrastinate a lot like that. It is located near Redhill MRT if that is convenient.

So I never ended up using Plixo, and I don't wanna part my money with Ultra Supplies and having to fold my patterns myself. So I waited and prayed for something more convenient to come through.

Prayers answered, it popped up! Our famous local Quilters are going to provide the A0 Printing service for us sewist! Specifically for sewing patterns!

2Quilters

As the name suggest, this business is born to 2 Quilters who got together to supply us sewist what we need, from threads, to fabrics, to needles, to rotary cutters and now to A0 printing service! More about the owners, Aimee and Yvetter here.

It may appear strange providing printing services when quilters are suppose to be quilting, but it made sense to us. Them being a sewist, we don't need to tell them we need it to be printed to 100% scale, because they would know. When I send my drawings to the shops, I would have to repeatedly tell them to print to scale and not to fit. I would say 100 times at least so they don't mess it up.

It was a breeze dealing with 2Quilters, I have purchased threads and needles from them before and they were prompt and great, and this time is no different, if not better! It was a Monday that I add to cart the number of drawings down to their website here, and subsequently emailed them the files that needs to be printed and further instructions as to which pages, and how many copies, etc. I got confirmation emails on Tuesday, I paid on Wednesday. And guess what? I received all of them, folded nicely, arranged and in order on Friday! That is so quick!

Now I don't have anymore reasons to procrastinate on sewing.. I am so going to send more patterns to them to print..

Oh I forgot, with 2Quilters, it is $3/page for black&white and $5/page for color, if you are printing more than 10pages, it goes down to $2.50/page and $4/page respectively. And.... free local postage for purchases above $30! Awesome bargain, I tell you!

So look no further, this is the best deal ever to send your A0 patterns for printing. If you have a better deal, do whisper to me.

Until you find one, I am collating my patterns together for the next batch of printing. :)

A happy sewist,
Jun

3 of 12 months of 2017

Assalammu'alaikum family, friends, readers and followers of this blog. February went zoomed past me, and today is already the 4th week of March! Now let's catch up...

Beginning of March was pretty much just compiling all my orders for #sewbasicsg to get done once I am back from my holidays. Spend quite a bit of fabrics, so i can stay home to sew more than I get out to get fabrics or notions.

The 1st week was pretty much spent on packing and planning and getting money changed and confirmations of our trips..

The 2nd week, the long awaited family trip (which i had shared here) with my husband, my mom & my second niece.

I took a whole lot of photos to help #sewbasicsg last a long while before she needs more photos all over again. I took advantage of the outdoors, the green sceneries and whenever I have the chance to flash my camera and start clicking.

We came back drained. Thank god for insurance, we decided to make our first claim, just like that.

About insurance, I remember a lot of my younger adult which detest insurance. I used to feel like we are paying a whole lot for nothing because I was too young to treasure health and maybe just blessed to not get sick badly during that time frame. I took the simplest, the cheapest possible, and lapse a couple of times. My then insurance agent, Sean, was patient and keep telling me it will be beneficial later on, like 5-10 years down the road, and that I should really invest in a good plan. An advice that fell on deaf ears.

After he left the company, I never really bother to take a look at my policies. Last I met him was briefly after I got a job after a long year of unemployment since my retrenchment. I took one policy, the cheapest possible that covers hospital bills or something like that, with cash every yr after a certain number of years of investing. I was quite prompt on that one.

So ya, after he left, I felt more need for better coverage but never really bother that much UNTIL I got myself sick, badly. I was in the hospital wishing I have his number to call and ask. I didnt, and never went to find out.

I finally looked at some letters are realised he has left and that another agent was looking at my policies. Still nothing of real need. Right until Christmas last yr, I think. I decided to text her, and we met, and we became friends, I relook at my policies.

I regretted not listening to Sean back then. I wished I had a better policy that would cover my sickness which landed me in hospital for 8days. I wished I earn some payouts with it, but didnt. So I figured I need more coverage, since this sickness is for life. Ok, before you go all frantic, it is not cancer, it is not contagious, it is not something that stopped me from doing what I do everyday, but it does restrain me from some vigorous or hard work. It weakens by immune by a wee bit.

So, I took 2 more policies. And ended up with this bill of $200/mth, and some $400 smtg per annum, and the pre-existing one which is just $71.30/mth.

Not big amt means not a huge payout should I die or been diagnosed with another illness, but the least I can reassure myself that I am covered, and that my family will be somewhat a little or a lot eased with these insurance.

I am loyal to AIA for many reasons, the top reasons, as I always have to emphasize is how they agent took care of me. They never pushed me to swallow and take in the most expensive policy in their system, they never slash my meat and grill it to bloodless, they simply become my friend. In which I find comfort to consult them whenever in doubt. My agent get numerous repeated questions about my policies because I just dont remember. She attends to me like a friend would. Of course she doesnt have just me, so sometimes it takes awhile before she reverts, but she always does. I can never say enough thanks to her for taking care of my policies. Payments sometimes dont get through, and she NEVER judges me. She just simply reminds me when she gets notified of failed attempts to deduct the amount via giro.

I am glad for that. I remember another insurance company who would pass remarks like to not waste his time if I cant pay, yada yada.. Glad I got Sean to transfer that out and in with AIA. And have since been told to just pass my agent's number for other insurance company who couldn't take no for an answer to deal with.

I did just that the last time an agent call to advice me of some insurance. I simply pass it like "i have an agent, you may talk to her about your recommendations, and she will revert to me, thank you"

Usually I don't really get to pass her number, they will just say ok and hang up.

If you are keen to know your options, you may refer to this entry and get their number in that post.

So ya, that claim will go through, aint I glad I took up travel insurance for my trip!

3rd week, is just me doing laundry from the trips, for 3 days and counting, it is still not completed. Pfft. And also me completing orders that needs to get out to their owners by end this week.

Just as I typed this, I received news that my favourite Uncle S had passed... 20th March, another uncle gone to meet our Creator. Last I saw him was during my fathers passing, he came with his wife, I didn't see him a lot after that.. I had a little regret for not visiting him while I could. But regrets are useless when death intercepts. I should really try harder to make time for people while they are still here around me. I visited my cousin the next day.

He recalled and shared with us a beautiful memory of my Uncle S. He wanted us to just remember all the good things. And for the good things, I shall remember.

4th week... The last leg, which means I need to complete 2 hoodie orders, before I get going with 2 more... Alhamdulillah, I have been receiving orders. And here is what's new at #sewbasicsg

We delivered a Raglan Couple Set:

And we got around sewing something new too!

A dressier Mak & Me Collection, great for playdates, lunch out or hi-tea. Welcome, the Lyenq (Girls') and Eqa (Women's) Dress!

Go visit us at our FB Page or Instagram to see more of it. :)

We are also sewing some instocks, although I never got myself to start as much as I wanted to, partly because my immune is failing and not holding up right.

As much I wanted to slow down on reviewing, I had one that I must do! About A0 printing service, and how it is more beneficial when a fellow sewist provides such printing service than a printing company. Since I have had a good share of sending patterns to print at both. I will tell you just why it is so much smoother and easier to send it to a quilter instead of the printing shop.

In this last leg of March, I am also enjoying the LG Ultra HD 4K TV. The color, sound and clarity, oh my.. there is no going back! And we got it at a good one day sale! Paid in CASH! Awesome much!

And oh.. I bought cheap nice looking shoes too!

It may not be authentic, but I like this inspired New Balance.

And this "rejected" Converse.

It is just shoes! And with me riding, they will be very worn, so as long as it fits, and gives me comfort, I don't see why, and as long as seller is honest with it indicating "inspired" and telling us it is "rejected" due to minor defects like missed stitches, or discolor bits which my eyes couldnt catch unless I looked carefully looking for it.. Which I never did spot what the reject was. It fits, and that was all that mattered. So yeay to getting two shoes for just $60.50 incl reg mail!

But it is really authentic unless otherwise mentioned, and if you doubt their authenticity, you can always go to the shop.. noone is forcing you to buy, right? :)

These shoes are from here.

So much for slowing down on doing reviews eh, looks like I have a list building up to write now..

Nothing much planned for the last leg of March, so I shall just publish this. April is pretty much filled with weddings, I have 3 weddings to attend, I think.. More selfish sewing maybe? :)

Busy Sewing Bee,
Jun

Wassalam.

2017 Family Vacation!

Assalammu'alaikum family, friends, readers and followers of this blog. Nope, I think I will slow down by 90% on reviews this year, and focus on what goes on in my life for 2017.

So, March is here... and so is our FAMILY VACATION!! Yeay!

We had initially planned for 8 pax. However, our little big man was enrolled for the January intake which means his term break clashes with his sister's sch break. Even if it didn't, my little Hamtaro had CCAs and classes to attend through the one week break. So, yeah..

It didn't deterred our mood for a vacation though. We proceeded with just 4 of us, my husband, my mom, my 2nd niece and I. We decided to take a Starex with a driver for the whole 4 Days 3 Nights vacation, meaning the driver will be driving us up and around the whole stay, and with just 4 of us, he can afford to bring an assistant, which works both ways.

We got a little surprised though, because Baby M's Mama decided to let us bring her along for this trip at 5pm the day before we are to move off. So we went about grabbing a bigger luggage bag, and some innerwears for her to brace the colder weather there. We were a bit nervous because it will mean Baby M is going to be breaking her record staying with us for so long, and these 4 days to come is many miles away from home. So we brought her teddy, her babydoll carrier, her favourite jacket, and lots of matching outfits with me to get her excited for a bit more.

My second niece was more than excited, after having to miss 2 family vacations, one of which I missed myself. So she was thrilled!

Oh, where we went? We decided on Cameron Highlands. not freezing cold, but definitely a different climate and weather for us, so the extra excitement there. Most of us are going there for the first time, it was Baby M's and my 2nd niece's 2nd time.

So here we go...

Day 1: I made her sleep most of the journey

At one of the pit stops

The view I get while in the car

She playing and keeping herself occupied in her world

End of Day 1
Day 2: Bharat Tea Plantation

Us among the fresh green scenery

Fish Feeding at Lavender Garden

Day 2

I made this the night before we are to go off.

Day 3 at the 3D Museum

Day 3: Mt Brinchang

Day 3: Boh Tea Plantation

Day 3

Day 3

Day 3

Day 3

Day 3

Day 4: Raju Hill Strawberry Farm

So those are just SOME of our photos, there are lots more hiding in each others phone..

So Day 1, we got on the Starex 11 seater ard 8.30am, heading up with multiple stops to fill our tummies and get snacks along the way, reaching Cameron around 6.30pm at our homestay location. So our Day 1 is just dinner. The steamboat was meh. So, I wont be telling much more than just that.

Day 2 started at 9am, we went to Bharat Tea Plantation, the Butterfly Farm, the Lavender Garden, the Time Tunnel Museum, more makan, Night Market and makan again.

Day 3 started earlier, around 8am, we went to Boh Tea Plantation, the Bee Farm, Mt Brincang and Cameron Square Mall. makan, Night Market and makan again.

Day 4, we went to Raju Hill Strawberry Farm, Bee Farm and head home. We arrived back in Sg, at my mom's around 7.30-8pm.

It may not be much, but we truly truly enjoyed the cool and green climate there.

What made our trip great are usually the people whom we go with, which is of course awesome people because they are all family. Second is the person who bring us around, the driver and his assistant. He kept us informed right from the start, from the moment he foresee a traffic jam which may lead him to being a bit behind schedule right to keeping us informed of the temperature change, to how Cameron was occupied by the British to how the British train the Ceylonese to plant strawberries and tea.. It was informative, and very useful.

Thirdly, the accommodation. We didn't opt for hotel because we don't foresee ourselves utilizing much of the hotel's utilities and services, so we opted for a homestay, which is closer to home. We took the apartment at Suriana D'Royal Lily. It was definitely a good choice made, albeit the heater being pretty much pointless because it was freezing anyway. :p

But definitely did not define how much fun we had whilst we stayed there!

Who and How I got my driver, is via this Carousell post, afterwhich i followed up on his FB Page.
My driver is Mr Amirji himself.

Our homestay, I got it through the Cameron Highland grp here, I picked An-Najah Homestay, her fb page here. Home Owner blogs too, you can read it here, it is mostly in Malay, though. :)

In this trip, I find that I am the laid back traveller, in which I am not at all bothered about filling my stay with activities, but more for breath-taking views and experiences. So I am not as much compatible to plan for those who are in need of activities filled trip. That doesn't mean I won't enjoy if it was planned as such, because I am afterall more of a follower than a planner. SO, if you want to fill up your trip with activities, go ahead and take the plate off my table, I will be happy to hand it over to you.

This trip however, is not 100% planned by me on my own, it was something made up by all three of us, with mom taking the back seat. We input ideas on almost all the days we were there. Like how my niece input her suggestion to re-visit the night market on Day 3, and the omission of the Safari drive and suggestion to revisit the Bee Farm on Day 4 by my mom to get more honey, and the input of going to Cameron Square Mall to visit the 3D museum by me and my niece. It was more of teamwork because we are all laid back travellers. We can live the trip even if we have nothing planned, for as long as we get our tummies filled with good food. That's just how we are.

On the way back to Sg, we planned to travel again, further up, if we live up to it. Hoping the rest would join us, otherwise it is just the 4 of us again.

And just like that, 3rd week March is almost gone. And as usual, look up my monthly entry summary in a weeks' time.

To more travelling adventures,
Jun
