I hope this finds you in great health and may it be a bright good mood for all of you.
This entry, is basically to just share what I had learned about hamsters, and what I did before getting my pet, 2-Tee.
We (Husband and I), have been researching, window shopping at Pet stores for many months before deciding to get one. We searched the net for valuable knowledge that will help out pet live happily and healthy.
Initially we thought about the Habitrail, and then research again. We found out most (if not all) Habitral cages are too small even for a dwarf hamster. So we began to look at a cage that is at least 50x25cm base. Then we went on to the next item, bedding! We researched a lot, the forumers recommended KayTee Clean & Cozy, but said Recycled Paper bedding is also ok. However, they warned us not to get anything with scent for that will cause respiratory problems for the hamster. Then the sand bath, the highly recommend Supreme Science brand was our choice.
And next would be the breed. We dun want the Syrian as it will be too big, and we may need a lot of upgrade to give it more space as required. We decided on a dwarf hamster, now... Which one? There are Roborovski, Normal Winter White, Sapphire and Pearl White. Another research begins.
We discovered Roborovski is very active and fast, which means it may not like us to hold him and if we do, it would probably run and it would be very hard to catch it. The other three have about the same character, and are most suitable. So we are down to their fur colour.
I fell in love with Normal Winter White, and so did my husband. Now, time to look for peeps who have them up for adoption. Search, and found! We bought all our stuff, and brought home 2-Tee when she was about a month old. We bonded well with her. We began to shower her with lots of love. We figured out what to feed her, how to reward her and everything was around her at one point of time.
We discovered they need to eat their greens. Which greens? Dark leaves - like spinach, broccoli, Chinese mustard green, etc. Tofu and wheatgerm is also good for them. And occasionally, I will give small bits of chicken for her protein needs.
She was pretty much toilet trained right on her 1st day. We change her bedding at least once in 10days max. I would change is every 8 or 9 days depending. We put her in her ball once a week at least for 10-15 mins max. We changed her water every 2days. and give her fresh food every 2 days.
She is our precious, and I hope she will her full life span of 2-2.5yrs.
2-Tee wishes everyone Ramadhan Mubarak & may your days always be filled with love.
With that,
Wassalam,
Jun
